Tharangambadi - Restoration of Governor Bungalow - Tamil version

The film is about the residence of the former Danish governor in Tranquebar/Tharangampadi, which from 1620-1845 was a Danish trading station in India. Today the house is owned by the Government of Tamil Nadu. From 2009–2011, it was thoroughly restored by the Pondicherry chapter of INTACH (Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage), who also produced this film.

Historian Simon Rastén and architect Niels Erik Jensen from the National Museum of Denmark provided historic research and architectural consultancy as part of the restoration project financed by a private donation and hosted by the Danish National Museum’sTranquebar Initiative (2004-2016), research leader Professor Esther Fihl, dir. Centre for Comparative Cultural Studies, ToRS, University of Copenhagen and who in 2015 received rights to store and distribute the movie.

Der fokuseres på et udvalgt aspekt af den interkulturelle udvekling og de kulturforståelser, der var gældende dengang eller senere op i historien. Videooptagelsen, redigeringen og webarbejdet er udført af Jesper Lambæk fra produktionsselskabet Historiefabrikken, mens Carsten Skjoldborg fra UNESCO har stået for idé og tilrettelæggelse i 2008. Galathea3 Uge-revy fra Accra med Esther Fihl

Uge-revy med etnografen Esther Fihl fra skibet Vædderen efter besøget i Accra i Ghana i august 2006. Emnet er de danske koloniaktiviteter samt den første danske sørejse syd om Afrika, som i 1620 førte til grundlæggelsen af kolonien Tranquebar i Indien. Indslaget er produceret i forbindelse med den danske forskningsekspedition Galathea3. Ekspeditionen er en jordomsejling. Ombord er skiftende danske forskere, som formidler videnskabens svar på både naturvidenskabelige, socialvidenskabelige og humanistiske spørgsmål.

Denne uge-revy er produceret for Tycho Brahe Planetariet af Lærke Morell og Ole Juncker fra Jyllands-Posten, og ret til distribution er i 2015 givet til Nationalmuseets Tranquebar Initiativ (2004-2016), forskningsfaglig leder Professor Esther Fihl, leder af Center for Komparative Kulturstudier, ToRS, Københavns Universitet.

In 1985 ethnographer Esther Fihl shot around 200 minutes of raw footage in Tranquebar/Tharangampadi, a former Danish trading station in India from 1620-1845. The footage has been made into 9 small films of around 4 minutes each, documenting culture and society in Tranquebar in the 1980s. The film clips portray history, fishery, Hinduism, Christianity, Islam, childhood, schools, an oxcart ride, and Indian-Danish cultural heritage. An additional film footage, shot in 2007, was made into a film clip portraying a wedding.

In 2015, ITMEDIA, University of Copenhagen converted and processed the old raw footages and MA student Sofie Vilhelmsen edited the film clips for the Danish National Museum’s Tranquebar Initiative (2004-2016), research leader Professor Esther Fihl, dir. An animation movie prepared for children in three separate episodes. It depicts a time travel back to the Danish era (1620-1845) in Tranquebar/Tharangampadi in south India. It deals with different aspects of this history. The movie is produced in a Tamil as well as an English version by INTACH (The Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage), Pondichery section & Auroville, 2011-2012.

En undervisningsfilm om danskere i kolonitidens Tranquebar og deres opfattelse af sydindisk kultur (1620-1845). Illustreret tillige med filmklip optaget i Tranquebar/Tharangampadi i 1985. Filmen er tilrettelagt og produceret af etnografen Esther Fihl i samarbejde med Landcentralen for Undervisningsmidler i 1990.Derudover en folder udgivet i forbindelse med filmen. Folderen beskriver omstændighederne omkring filmoptagelserne i 1985 og rummer diskussionsoplæg til brug i undervisning.

ITMEDIA, Københavns Universitet har i 2015 konverteret filmformatet og korrigeret farverne i forbindelse med Nationalmuseets Tranquebar Initiativ (2004-2016), forskningsfaglig leder Professor Esther Fihl og leder af Center for Komparative Kulturstudier, ToRS, Københavns Universitet. © Esther Fihl

Open educational resources are potentially a great teaching- and educational resource, but also challenging to utilize. This presentation will briefly define OER and highlight the opportunities linked with the increased use of OER at course level. Experiences with the use of OER will be highlighted based upon the integration of OER on a small number of courses. International conference on cultural rights

Organized by the research project The Past’s Future, headed by Helle Porsdam, Saxo Institute.

In 2009, the UN appointed Farida Shaheed as Special Rapporteur in the field of cultural rights. The Special Rapporteur has since published various reports on cultural rights which together provide a new standard on this new and exciting area of human rights.

Farida Shaheed will be present at this conference during which international experts will comment on each of her reports. The UN reports will subsequently be published, together with the comments, in an edited volume. One underlying question for the conference is whether, with due care and attention, cultural rights could become a prime mover – an enabler and driver for development by providing a much-needed cultural legitimacy for human rights.

Increasing importance

During the last few decades, cultural rights have become increasingly relevant in the context of globalization and the protection of intellectual property (IP) rights. Furthermore, cultural rights are seen as key to the realization of the UN Millenium Development Goals. It is generally accepted that cultural rights are of equal importance to all human beings and impose upon nation states the obligation to respect, protect and fulfill these rights.

This is particularly interesting as international legal instruments such as the International Bill of Human Rights are comparatively silent on cultural rights.
