Sea Urchins Give New Ideas for Light-weight Materials
Biotemplating means to study nature's design principles to improve man-made materials. The study of the exoskeletons of sea urchins can lead to the creation of new, light-weight materials for use in many applications. Using CT scans it is possible to find out why the skeletons are much stronger than the chalk they consist of.
