Mette Birkedal Bruun is the director of the Centre for Privacy Studies and a professor of Church History at the University of Copenhagen. Her research focuses on religious dimensions of the dynamic between withdrawal from the world and engagement with the world. She has worked extensively on medieval and Early Modern monasticism as well as on the interaction between monastic and lay devotion in Early Modern France.
In 2017, she received the Carlsbergfondets Forskningspris as well as the Einar Hansen Forskningsfonds pris for excellent humanities research.
