Although no people have been to Mars yet, we have already dug and drilled in the subsurface of the planet, and Danish scientists are part of the Mars expeditions. Studies show that there have been large lakes on Mars, and we have found surprisingly high levels of silicon oxide. Here on Earth a high silicon content is often associated with environments with excellent opportunities for life.
